Patient Care

Promoting long-term health….

Clinically we provide care in our faculty practices , three of which are based in Miami-Dade County, University of Miami Medical Center, Coral Gables and Kendall. We also have faculty practices in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. The Division maintains a strong affiliation with our public hospital partner, Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH), where we lead two inpatient ward teams and provide outpatient care at JMH’s Ambulatory Care Clinic.

The focus of our clinical activities are on delivering the highest quality cost effective patient centered care. Our goal is to maximize the health of each individual person, by addressing every person’s complete physical, mental and social well-being and not just addressing specific diseases. Our three overlapping clinical domains are as follows:

1) First, and most importantly is to promote long-term health. Working together with our patients we concentrate on health maintenance and prevention to avoid long-term complications by preventing and delaying the onset of serious illnesses and disability.

2) Our faculty diagnose and treat acute episodic illnesses as well as chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, lung diseases, liver diseases and musculoskeletal disorders. When needed, our GIM faculty are also backed by the immediate availability of world class experts in specific diseases, surgical procedures and radiological techniques for the entire spectrum of diseases.

3) Our faculty coordinate and oversee care for patients having various active serious chronic co-morbidities including many with advanced and debilitating illnesses. We help co-manage such patients in close consultation with our subspecialty colleagues. As a team, we strive to ensure such care is delivered in a coordinated patient centered approach that prioritizes patient and family care preferences.
