Hospital Medicine

Providing dedicated and high quality care

A Message from The Chief

Welcome to the University of Miami Division of Hospital Medicine, created in 2007, the Division of Hospital Medicine provides patient services at UHealth Tower, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and Jackson Memorial Health Systems. We strive to provide University of Miami’s high standards of excellence through individualized, coordinated, multidisciplinary clinical care to our usually highly complex patients, all within an academic environment. Our Division understands its role as a point of contact between the community and UHealth System. We embrace the challenge and look forward to be an integral part of the preeminent health system in South Florida. Our formula consists of selecting exceptional clinicians with compassionate attitudes to be part of our team. Our patient care teams are comprised of a physician along with a collaborating Advanced Practicing Registered Nurse. Each team carries a patient census of 20 per day. This model results in a patient to provider ratio of 10:1. The adequate ratio ensures our providers have ample time for personalized care from admission to discharge, coordinating care with outpatient providers, speaking with our consultants, discussing the daily plan of care with patients and their families’. Among our distinguished faculty are key leaders in the UM Internal Medicine Residency Program, Directors for The UM School of Medicine Clerkship, Bascom Palmer Service and Procedures Program and nationally recognized speakers for the Society of Hospital Medicine. Many of our faculty are engaged in Quality Improvement initiatives and Patient Safety.

Our mission is to shape the next generation of medical professionals through mentorship and education along with leading innovations to make a positive impact on our patients and the UHealth system.

We understand our role as a frequent point of contact between UHealth and our community. At the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, we look forward to make readily accessible all of the UM excellence in a patient-centric manner for a hospital destined to be among the best in the nation.
