Hospital Medicine

Providing dedicated and high quality care

A Message from The Chief

Hospitalists are internist physicians taking the role of primary care providers for hospitalized patients. We are in the hospital all day, coordinating care with your outpatient primary care provider and in-hospital consultants. We thrive in making available all of the hospital services at the moment they are needed. Together with hospital administration, nursing, pharmacy and social services, we deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary cost efficient care and a catered discharge plan to meet the patients’ needs. The Hospital Medicine Division provides a portal to ensure all of our patients receive care that is in line with the University of Miami Health System’s high standards of excellence.

The Division was created in 2007 as one of the first academic Divisions in the nation and we now care for patients at UMH, UMHC, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, Jackson Memorial Medical Center and at Lennar Foundation Medical Center.
We are more than board certified. Faculty from the Division are leaders in Hospital Medicine education, both nationally and abroad, and are routinely sought out as speakers and course directors for continuing medical education conferences. Our faculty are key leaders in the UM Internal Medicine Residency Program and Directors for The UM School of Medicine Clerkship rotations.

Nationally, we are renowned leaders publishing in the areas of quality improvement, patient safety and medical education. Our flagship research project revolves around the safe performance of bedside procedures, which is federally funded by a Florida statewide foundation.

We understand our role as a frequent point of contact between UHealth and our community. At the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, we look forward to make readily accessible all of the UM excellence in a patient-centric manner for a hospital destined to be among the best in the nation.
