Goals and Objectives

  • Learn the skills of a gastroenterology consultant in the hospital and ambulatory care settings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in knowledge and understanding of anatomy and pathophysiology of the gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary tracts.
  • Interact with primary care physicians, residents, interns, and students in consultation, providing education to those outside of our specialty.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of basic and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  • Recognize gastrointestinal/hepatic/pancreaticobiliary pathology (clinical, endoscopic, radiographic, and pathologic) and create a differential diagnosis.
  • Become involved in the management of patients with gastrointestinal/hepatic/ pancreaticobiliary disorders, incorporating history, physical examination, and laboratory, radiographic, and pathologic data as it pertains to the case.
  • Participate in divisional and multidisciplinary conferences.
  • Perfom scholarly research activities with appropriate research mentorship – aiming at presentation at national meetings and manuscript submission to high impact journals
  • Demonstrate proficiency in knowledge and understanding of anatomy and pathophysiology of the gastrointestinal and hepatopancreaticobiliary tracts.
  • Learn the essentials of the nutritional assessment in patients with gastrointestinal/hepatic/pancreaticobiliary disorders and the impact of nutrition as it applies to these disorders.
  • Demonstrate an increasing ability to accept responsibility for performance and supervision of procedures.
